Contest Rules

Videos must be the original work directed, filmed and edited by one individual.  Assistance from a professional production company is not permitted.  Help from friends and family is fine, but only one prize* will be awarded for a prize-winning video.  Any high school student in a Kent ISD school (see list ) is eligible to submit a video.  One entry per student.

All entries become the property of Kent ISD.

All entries must include:
 

  • • One original video, no more than 2 minutes long
  • • Video provided on a DVD, in a DVD case
  • • One completed Entry form.
  • • One completed and SIGNED Release Statement (note: both the student AND a parent/guardian must sign).  Put the entry form inside the case or attach it to the outside with a rubber band.  Do not glue or tape the entry form to the DVD.
  • • Signed Talent Release forms from every individual involved in the creation of the video, including on-camera actors and any voiceover announcers.  It is the student's responsibility to make sure these forms are included.

Incomplete entries will be disqualified.

The Do NOT list:
 

  • • No inappropriate language or content can be on the video
  • • No rants, gripe sessions, negative content or negative school comparisons
  • • Nothing illegal or the depiction of anything illegal can be on the video
  • • No brand name labels.  Either remove all brand name labels from props and clothing or choose items without brand names
  • • Do not use any images that have copyrights.  This includes photographs, film footage, photos from the internet or in books/magazines.  No copyrighted music can be used, although your own original music is fine.  There are sources of copyright-free music you can use -- check with your school or local library for help locating sources.

Videos that depict content described above will be disqualified.

Judging & Winning

Videos will be judged in early June by a panel of judges that will include educators, media experts and students.  All students who created a qualified video entry will be notified if they have won a prize.

All entries become the property of Kent ISD and may be used by Kent ISD now or in the future.  If used, credit will be given to the student for his or her work.

*all prizes funded by a private community foundation grant
